Why Does Black History Matter?

In today’s climate this question should be self-explanatory. It isn’t. And surprisingly it’s not about White people’s perspective on this issue.

Black History is not just about the experiences of Black people in North America we are very much aware of that. But the experiences shared on this site and other pages come mainly from those experiences.

This is one reason Black History matters. Because there are many chapters of Black History that are underexplored in Black American consciousness. We enjoy exploring The Global Black Experience even if only from the lens of North America. Black History also matters because there are legacies that remain uncredited without Black awareness.

Black History is not just about that individuals that reach mainstream status. It is also about the movements that shape Black Life in the subtle darkness. Our goal here is give some exposure to every tiny trickle of Black influence. Yes even the ones we may disagree with.

Because to agree or disagree is human. We are taught by different teachers, it is natural to value and devalue information differently. But at the end of the day, what moves the needle forward for the benefit of Black people is unknown. The making of history requires a mixture of ideas. Some work some don’t. But they all fuel the causation of change.
